The worst thing about a vacation?

I love getting away, but as I get older I love it less.

This was a car vacation. We drove over 1200 miles in 7 days. My tush is sore, my back hurts and my feet (yes, my feet) hurt. Try sitting in a car, in the same position for hours on end, go to bed and try to stand up in the morning.

Yes, my feet.

Now, as we approach the final hour of our homecomings, my stomach starts the familiar pains of anticipation that start the worrying of what awaits me at home.

As we were loading up the car and locking up the house, one of the cats ran out and we could not get him in. We had no choice but to leave the cat door open.

These cats have never been allowed to go out at night and now had free reigh to come and go at will. Not a good idea because Cha Cha likes to play with chipmunks, and most of the time they eventually run up a tree and she's off for another toy.

Little princess has discovered that there are no trees in the house for them to run up and bringing them inside allows her to keep them captive. At one point in June, I had 2 extra pets hiding under the baseboard heating until we could rescue them.

We do hire a pet sitting service and we have a regular girl who knows the routine around here but I just can't relax until I am home and I see 2 black cats.

I am lucky to have very good cats. The neighbor said she saw them everyday, just sleeping on the patio and the sitter said they were always here when she stopped by.

Anyone with animals must go through a similar homecoming, but I know stress gets worse as our age goes up.

Took me 5 hours to just get to know my house again, water the vegetables, return phone calls and sort through 150 emails.

Good news....I finally have eggplants. Oh, they are golfball-sized gems but they are.......and that's a nice thing to come home too.

I also have a wonderful, ready to eat, bowl of yellow grape tomatoes.
I see a nice marinaded tomato and onion salad on the menu.

I am happy to report I did not loose one flower or vegetable while away during another 80+ degree week with no rain. I just love my house sitter.
