Battle of the Wings


I do my weekly food shopping on Saturdays and then make a small trip during the week to fill in anything I missed. The Saturday before Super Bowl Sunday my market put large family packs of chicken wings on major sale. The Nudge was on his way to Boston so I had those wings all to myself, to cook them the way I wanted them, and that way would be Asian.

I finally got to them around the Thursday of that week and pulled out my favorite chicken baking sauce recipe and got to work. Sad to say that by the time I finally got to eat those beauties I was too tired to enjoy them and back into the fridge they went.

Here comes the worse part. When The Nudge got home he needed a lunch to bring to work and mistakenly grabbed the container of my wings instead of the lunch I prepared for him.
Oh yea, he ate the whole container and called to rave about them. He hates Asian wings!!

When I make my menu, I always give The Nudge a chance to add a dish he might want to eat that week. Usually he'll pick a meat dish, lamb chops, steak, meatloaf, etc.
As you can see from this week's list he found his voice, and he's singing an opera.
What made me laugh after all was said and done, he asked to eat "those wings you made for me last time, they were great!!".

I immediately put Buffalo Wings on the menu.
Tell me everyone but me was aware that Frank's Wing Sauce had zero calories, zero cholesterol, zero fat and zero EVERYTHING???
Oh man, if I had known that sooner I would have Buffaloed everything in site and there would be a Cadillac in our driveway with my name on it.

So, after confessing one of my most embarrassing revelations to the world, guess what tonight's dinner was? No matter what version I made, there was going to be a side of healthy coleslaw, carrot sticks and a light blue cheese dipping sauce.

"Honey, my lips are burning for a thank you Ma'am kiss".
"Huh? No thank you, my lips are just fine, you eat the last one".

BBQ Coleslaw
* 10 cups thinly sliced green cabbage
* 6 tablespoons lite mayonnaise
* 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
* 3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
* 2 tablespoons sugar

1. Cut one large head of cabbage into quarters and remove the core.
2. Thinly slice the cabbage (almost shaven) and add the the remaining ingredients. Stir to combine and refrigerate until ready to eat. There will be lots of juice in the bottom but don't throw it away. It will keep the cabbage fresh, longer.

This is enough salad to serve as a side for at least two weeks, but it won't last that long.
