Wondering how to choose the healthiest foods? Just because what you think is healthy it might not be the healthiest food in their category. With the high price of produce (and still to rise more), why not get the scoop on which foods will give your family the highest bang for your buck?
A few months ago, in this post on radish soup, I talked about watching a Dr. Oz show that introduced me to ANDI .
ANDI stands for "Aggregate Nutrient Density Index," a scoring system that rates foods on a scale from 1 to 1000 based on nutrient content.
ANDI scores are calculated by evaluating an extensive range of micronutrients, including vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidant capacities.
Since then, when I needed to pick a green for a salad, or a stir-fry, I reference a list placed on a magnetic dry erase board right next to my desk. I know that not only will they taste great, but I will be getting the benefit of the highest nutritional value from those foods.
I can eat less but eat the best and healthiest of vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, fruits and yes, herbs.
Now that's good cooking!!
